Surround sound full range speaker price or single driver speaker?
1)The positives part:
1.The absence of a crossover will mean that the phase response of a single-driver speaker is more linear than a (passive)
2.The absence of a crossover will mean that a single-driver speaker will tend to have a smoother polar response than a multi-way (non-coaxial) speaker.
2)The negatives part:
1.The single driver speaker will be larger than a single tweeter, so the speaker will tend to be more directional at higher frequencies.
2.The single driver will tend to generate more inter modulation distortion because the same cone that is producing high frequencies will be displacing more as it reproduces bass frequencies.
3.The single driver speaker will find it hard to strike a balance between reproducing deep bass (which requires a larger surface area / low resonance frequency) and being small enough not to suffer from cone breakup in the high frequencies
Full-range speakers offer a great sound experience and the quality is better than that of the most multi-way speakers. The elimination of the crossover gives this speaker more power to provide a delightful listening experience. Furthermore, it gives quality and detail in the mid-level tones. However, commercial full-range speakers might be expensive and are rare. In some cases, audiophiles might have to assemble their own units.
So,in my opinion, choosing two-way full range speaker as the surround sound system is a better choice.
